This year, I watched both two-hour premieres to Season 8 of American Idol. I haven't even been watching for eight seasons and I'm already starting to wonder if the auditions are getting old - the same thing every year. I am glad they are making the auditions shorter this year. I don't understand WHY anyone would go on national television when they so obviously can't sing! I mean, we have seven seasons of AI now to give us an example of what they're looking for! Nothing NOTHING could get ME up there. So I guess I'll never have a singing career. ;-) Okay, so I enjoy singing but I know I wouldn't have a chance at auditions. Definitely not strong enough vocally. Anyway - this isn't about me singing... I just don't get it. I would be afraid to be made fun of, too. And we knooow they look for angles that way - you couldn't relax for a moment!
So I didn't want to mention Bikini Girl - there, that makes me feel better. ;-) She got WAY too much camera time. Hermione from Harry Potter would know exactly what to say to that girl.
"At least no one [else] had to buy their way in. They got in on pure talent." ;-)
Well, it's not entirely true that she's the only one who got in with a gimmick, I'm sure - it would be hard to compete seriously with someone like that. Anyway. I'm looking forward to seeing how the competition goes. Should be interesting.
That's it on my thoughts for now. I'm really not sure what Anne would think - I'm sure she'd be horrified. I need to read the Anne books again and see what she said about Josie Pye. Though I'm pretty sure that seeing a half... uh, mostly-naked girl on TV would be even worse than Josie Pye. Yup. And she didn't even have red hair as an excuse. For, as Anne said in Anne of Green Gables, "You'd find it easier to be bad than good if you had red hair. People who haven't red hair don't know what trouble is."
As a final note, you must read this really cool and interesting article by someone who auditioned for American Idol this season (but sadly didn't make it). Check out 5 Minutes for Mom - I Am NOT The Next American Idol.

Americans crave weird, Hollywood-style antics and we help them live their extavagant lifestyles. Lol. I have to laugh or I'd cry.
